THE LANDMARK HOTEL
The Landmark Hotel has been exactly that for Carrick on Shannon since 1999. The enormous structure has a prime spot facing the River Shannon, dwarfing all else in the town, and has become something of a destination in its own right for both tourists and locals alike; a place to see and be seen.
It may lack a few of the extra facilities that you would expect in a luxury hotel of this size, a gym or spa for example. But it certainly masters the basics with spacious, comfortable rooms, top class service, excellent food, a lively bar and nightclub, and always buzzing common areas.
The rooms on offer range from standard singles and doubles through to huge ‘family rooms’ which can sleep up to six on two twin beds, one double bed and one sofa bed.
As you will see on the booking page here all rooms are described as deluxe, something we’d find it hard to argue with. The only way to splash out a bit extra cash is by choosing a room with a river view, which is always worth it.
They are all as spacious and plush as you would expect from a 4 star hotel and come with nice bathrooms, TV, WiFi, tea and coffee making facilities etc. as standard.
The common areas downstairs are always busy and lively. Apart from the bustling lobby there is a Boardwalk Cafe-Bar, the Boardwalk Restaurant which offers fine dining, various private bars and function rooms, and a nightclub.
Outside the door and just across the road there is the River Shannon, where you can go for riverside strolls or organize boat trips, take a stroll to the right and you will be in the centre of town in less than two minutes.
The scenic Carrick on Shannon golf club is also nearby and the staff at the Landmark can help you organize reservations.
